As the representative of stainless steel production in India, Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) called for the removal of 5 percent of the ferronickel import tariffs recently.
India's JSL Steel director and president of ISSDA NC Mathur pointed out that the ferronickel is the core raw materials to produce stainless steel. India does not produce this kind of material, the ferronickel import tariffs should be abolished to ensure their industry's competitive position.
It is said that India annually imports about 40,000 tons of ferronickel. If the 5 percent import tariff of ferronickel is abolished, it will greatly benefit India's stainless steel industry.
